Let's get some thoughts down.
What do I want this newsletter to achieve? What are it's goals?
Honestly, I don't know yet. But I want to figure it out.
I think more than anything, I want to watch something grow. Whether it's a newsletter (like this), a community, a more traditional business, a hobby-turned income stream, it doesn't matter.
As long as I start, persist, and watch something grow, even a small amount at first, I'll be satisfied.
And if I can solve a problem, educate, or help someone along the way, then even better.
Why now?
At the time of writing this very first blog post, I am about half way through my 33rd lap around the sun.
It just feels like it's time to try something new, and something a bit different from what most people do.
I firmly believe you are a creature of your surroundings. If your friends ski, you'll ski. If you're parents are entrepreneurs, you'll more inclined to start your own business. Well, I had none of that. Instead of waiting for something to come to me, I'm coming to it.
How am I going to start?
Persistence, determination, and repitition.
Starting with writing these newsletters (to myself initially in lack of any audience to speak of), I'm just going to jot down my thoughts, musings, and maybe half-brained ideas and see where it takes me.
If I can start writing on a frequent basis, my writing will improve.
If I start writing my ideas down somewhere, I may just find a good one.
If I start noting down thoughts on the books I've read, inspiration is more likely to come.
So, no real pressure to start. Just the determination to keep going, don't give up, and start the journey of experiencing something I've done myself.
Plus, it will be cool to look back on this in 10 years and think 'huh, this was my first post. This guy had no idea what he was in for'.
Well, me in 10 years, I sincerely hope you can look back on this and smile at how far you've come.
Wrapping Up
And that's about it for tonight.
I knew I didn't want this to be the most thought-provoking start to this blog, but rather I choose to seeing it as 'getting my reps in'. No real pressure, no perfect prose or style, just the start of doing something.
You can't build muscle without starting, and you can't build skills without learning.
And this is me learning.
I hope you enjoy the ride!
